Special US Congressional Primary Election Set for Oct. 15

It will be 13 weeks of campaigning before the party primaries in the race of the Fifth.

With the swearing-in of Edward Markey as U.S. Senator set for this morning, July 16, in Washington, Gov. Deval Patrick has set the dates for the primary and general special elections to select a replacement for Markey as U.S. Representative for the 5th Congressional District, which includes Watertown.

The fall foliage will be at its peak autumn color when voters goes to the polls as Patrick set the party primary elections for Tuesday, Oct. 15 — 91 days from today — and the general election Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Among the Democratic candidates running for the seat are two familiar names: Watertown state Sen. Will Brownsberger and former Watertown state Rep. and current Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian from Waltham.

In addition, Milford state Sen. Katherine Clark, Medford state Rep. Carl Sciortino and Framingham state Sen. Karen Spilka are also candidates for the Democratic Party nomination.
