Town Council to Consider Creating Historic District for the Orchard House

The Historic District Commission's request will be considered Tuesday night.

 

The Historic District Commission's effort to preserve the Orchard House by turning it into a historic district will be on the Tuesday night.

The HDC must get approval from the Council to form a study group, which would write a report on the proposed district.

, said HDC Chairman Harvey Steiner at the HDC meeting last Wednesday. The report would then be reviewed by the Massachusetts Historical Commission and a bylaw to create the district would have to be approved by the Town Council.

The Orchard House is on the property of Beacon High School, and in July the owners of the property, the Walker School, applied to tear down the house which was built in the 1830s. The Historical Commission in July.

The Town Council meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. and will be held in Town Hall in the Council Chambers.
