Watertown Democrats Holding Caucus on Feb. 11

Delegates for the Massachusetts Democratic Convention will be selected, and will help nominate the U.S. Senate candidate.

The following announcement was sent out by the Watertown Democratic Committee:

Registered Democrats in Watertown will be holding a caucus in the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Library on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. to elect 22 delegates and four alternates to the 2012 Massachusetts Democratic Party’s nominating convention. The Convention will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.

“This is going to be an exciting year as we build on our recent successes and prepare for the elections in 2012,” commented Watertown Democratic Committee Chairman Steve Owens.

Convention delegates will be nominating candidates for the 2012 U.S. Senate Democratic primary.

The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in Watertown and the Democratic Party warmly welcomes first-time participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret. In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates.

The committee normally meets on the last Thursday of the month in the Lower Hearing Room of the Watertown Town Hall. The next meeting will be 8 p.m., Jan. 26. For more information on the caucus or the committee please contact committee chair Steve Owens at watertowndems@gmail.com or 617-216-5577 or check out their website at www.wdtc.us.
