Watertown Democrats Meeting to Elect Delegates to State Convention

The caucus will be held Feb. 10 to elect delegates for the convention in Lowell in June.

The following information was provided by the Watertown Democratic Town Committee:

Registered Democrats in Watertown will be holding a caucus in the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Library on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. to elect 24 delegates and four alternates to the 2013 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where Democrats from across Massachusetts will gather to adopt a new Party Platform. The Convention will be held on Saturday, June 1 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.

“At our 2013 convention, the delegates selected by Watertown Democrats will debate and adopt our platform for the next four years, catch up and network with other organizers around the Commonwealth and hear from some exciting future leaders of our party,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh.

The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in Watertown and the Democratic Party warmly welcomes first-time participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret. In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates.

Starting this year, the Massachusetts Democratic Party will also hold a Youth Convention for high school organizers. Interested students should contact the Town Committee to apply.

The committee normally meets on the last Thursday of the month in the Lower Hearing Room of the Watertown Town Hall. The next meeting will be 7:30 p.m., Jan. 31.
