Watertown Election Heating Up as Clyde Younger Pulls Papers for a Council Run

Former Town Council President may run for president or the District D seat.

The election is still five months away, but the campaign is beginning to heat up, with former Town Council President Clyde Younger taking out papers for a possible run for a council seat.

Exactly which seat Younger will run for is not clear yet because he took out candidate papers from the Town Clerks Office for both Town Council President and for District D Councilor.

If he goes for Council President, he will seek his third stint in the position, and would be challenging current Council President Mark Sideris.

Younger served as Council President from 1997 to 2003, but lost to Pam Piantedosi. He won a rematch in 2005, but then lost in 2009 to Sideris.

The District D spot will be open because John Lawn will vacate the seat to focus on being a state representative. Another potential challenger for the seat, Kenneth Woodland, also took out papers on May 23.

A number of people have taken out papers for School Committee, too, including incumbents Christopher Beach and Eileen Hsu-Balzer and challengers Julie McMahon and Michael Shepard.
