What Should Go at the Front Entrance of Filippello Park When the Recycling Center Moves?

The Conservation Commission has started talking about how the land where the recycling center now sits will be used after it moves.

Watertown has a rare opportunity to add something new to one of the largest recreation areas in town, and town officials want residents to share their ideas for what to put in area near the entrance to Filippello Park.

Currently, there are basketball courts in the spot and the recycling center operates in the area, but that will soon move to Stanley Avenue on the West End of Watertown.

With the space freeing up, the Conservation Commission and the Recreation Department seek ideas for how to use the property, which sits along the driveway into Filippello Park off Grove Street, said Watertown's Director of Recreation Peter Centola.

"It's a matter of what the Conservation Commission recommends, what fits and what makes sense," Centola said. "We want to make sure it compliments the area, and it might be something different than what we offer in other recreation areas in town."

Centola sent out the following open letter to town residents:

Watertown Community,

The redesign discussions for the entry way of Filippello Park (Grove Street) have begun and we are seeking your help.

The Conservation Commission in collaboration with the Recreation Department and other Town Departments would like your input in the types of amenities, active, and/or passive recreational opportunities that the community would like to see designed and built at that location.

I have included a link that shows the area of Filippello Park (Grove) that is scheduled for redesign.

Google Earth has pictures from 1995 on that are pretty interesting to review also.

If interested, please send your ideas to: recreation@watertown-ma.gov and feel free to call 617-972-6494 with any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Peter Centola
Director of Recreation

Wasn't there talk of a dog park?

Yes, I think people have brought that idea up. Dog owners, would you go to a dog park at Filippello Park?
