Mena Ciarlone will serve as interim principal at the Cunniff Elementary School next school year after she was appointed to the post by Superintendent Jean Fitzgerald.
Ciarlone, who has served as the Elementary Curriculum Coordinator in the
Watertown Public Schools, will take over on July 1.
“I look forward to working with Mena Ciarlone in her new role as Interim Principal and with the staff and parents of the Cunniff Elementary School in the 2012-2013 school year,” Fitzgerald said in an announcement of Ciarlone's appointment.
She has been in the school system since 1980, and Ciarlone taught in grades K to 5 until 2010, according to Fitzgerald.
This is not the first time that Ciarlone has served as an interim principal. During the 1997-98 school year she served as acting principal at the Lowell School.
Her other experience in the Watertown schools includes serving on the Reading Advisory Team and working as the Professional Development Co-Coordinator.
Outside Watertown, Ciarlone has worked as an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University since 2002, where she has taught two literacy courses.
