Watertown Field Hockey Squad Earns Top Seed in Quest for Fourth Straight State Crown

The undefeated Raiders get a first round bye in the 2012 MIAA Div. 2 Field Hockey Tournament.

 

Watertown High School's march toward a fourth straight state field hockey championship begins Saturday when the undefeated Raiders host an MIAA Div. 2 North game. 

Coach Eileen Donohue and her team finished the regular season a perfect 18-0, and extended the team's unbeaten streak to 87. Their record earned the Raiders the first seed in the Div. 2 North tournament, and a bye into the quarterfinals, according to the brackets released by the MIAA on Monday.

Watertown hosts the quarterfinal game on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. The Raiders play the winner of the game between No. 8 seed Wilmington (10-3-5) and No. 9 seed Marblehead (10-5-3), who play on Thursday.

The State Final is scheduled for Nov. 17.

Seeded behind Watertown are No. 2 Manchester-Essex (16-1-1), No. 3 Swampscott (15-2-2), No. 4 Newburyport (13-2-3) and No. 5 Winchester (14-3-1).

Apponequet (15-0-1) earned the top seed in the Div. 2 South Section, Hopedale (16-1) is No. 1 seed in the Div. 2 Central Tourney and Frontier (13-4-1) is top seeded in the Div. 2 West Section.
