Singer/Songwriter Teresa Tudury to Perform at First Parish Church

Concert will benefit the Watertown-El Salvador Sister City Project.

Whenever she takes the stage, singer and songwriter Teresa Tudury aims to take her audiences on an inspiring musical journey. Her music, story-telling, and wit can be heard this Friday at First Parish of Watertown.

Growing up in Northern California, Tudury began writing songs at age 12. By the time she turned 15, she was performing at nightclubs in San Francisco. From there, she moved to Los Angeles, spending almost two decades singing, writing comedy, and acting.

Tudury is "a songwriter of profound depth and whacko humor," says concert volunteer Dean Stevens. He describes her musical style as "comedic folk/country/cabaret."

During her career, Tudury has recorded or performed with a variety of well known singers, including Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones, and Lyle Lovett.  Her voice has been described by LA Weekly as "a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt."

Friday’s concert is a benefit for the Watertown-El Salvador Sister City Project, for which Stevens is an activist. "All proceeds after expenses go toward scholarships for high school and university students in Nueva Esperanza, Watertown’s sister community in El Salvador. We've been doing this for 21 years."

The show is the season finale of the Tremedal Concerts fundraiser series at First Parish. "This year," says Stevens, "we have had four modestly attended events, say 40 or 50 people, and two times we sold out the First Parish in Watertown, whose capacity is about 150."

The concert will be Tudury’s first public performance in the Boston area, kicking off an East Coast tour which will take her to Maine, New Jersey, and New York City.

Tickets for Friday night's concert may be purchased online for $15 (plus fees) or $20 at the door.  For more information, visit the Tremedal Concerts website.
