Watertown Collecting Items to Donate to Event for Homeless and At-Risk Veterans

The items collected in Town Hall will be given to the Massachusetts Stand Down event in Dorchester in August.

The Watertown Veteran's Services Office will collect items in Town Hall for Massachusetts Stand Down, a two-day event in August to assist homless and at-risk veterans in the Bay State.

VA Boston Healthcare System will partner with Volunteers of America Massachusetts to put on the event on Aug. 24 and 25 at the IBEW Local 103, located at 256 Freeport St. in Doricester. While there, veterans will receive a variety of services, including housing assistance, job assistance, education, medical services, veterans benefits and more.

Veterans can spend then night on the grounds during the event in tents and cots provided for them.

Watertown Veteran's Services Agent Gina Rada said Watertown will be collecting toiletries, clothing and canned goods to provide the veterans during Massachusetts Stand Down. A box will be put out in the main lobby of Town Hall to place the items.
