Watertown Basketball Player Raising Money for Brain Cancer Research

The money raised by Mike Slonina will got to Mass. General Hospital and Children's Hospital.

Watertown native Mike Slonina wanted to help raise money for brain cancer research, so he combined his love of basketball to create a fundraising effort.

He is raising money through GoFundMe.com, and will put on the A Shot for Life Challenge featuring the top dozen basketball players from the Boston area at the University Sports Complex in Hanover.

He has a goal of $30,000, with the money going to Mass. General Hospital and Children's Hospital. The players taking part in the challenge will also raise money.

"As much as winning this event is prestigious from an athletic standpoint, raising money for cancer research through basketball is by far the most important aspect and all of the shooters understand that," Slonina wrote on his GoFundMe.com page.
