12U Raiders Open With Two Big Wins

The 12U Raiders opened their Fall Softball season with two match ups vs Natick at Murphy Field in Natick. First game: Watertown 21 - Natick 11. And there was no let down in the second contest. Results: Watertown 20 - Natick 4. The game featured some superb pitching performances from Destiny Santalucia, Caroline Costa, Christine MacLeod and first time pitcher Sarah Benites. Their catching partners were Jacqui Schwalm and Christine Zhu. The combo put together a spectacular performance. Some other highlights  from the game featured not one but two home runs coming from Stephanie Laskaris and Jacquie Furbish. Additional offense was manufactured by Anna Papayannopoulus who gave the 12U Raiders their first successful drop third strike run to first. Anna's blistering speed on the base paths was just too much for the Natick team. Her safe run to first not only got her on base but also allowed Amelia Doyle (who exhibited some heads up base running of her own) to steal home. Also contributing to the offense were Kate Myler and brand new players Cece Robinson and Ashley Nygren. Not only did all of the players contribute to the scoring barrage they also flashed some leather with their great defensive plays. Just a few of many great plays saw Stella Papadopoulous make a great put out at third, a high fly snag by Amelia, a line drive put out to the mound by Caroline, a super fielding play by the short stop who flipped the ball to Christine Zhu covering 2nd, and some very pretty throws across the diamond to first for put outs. The 12U Raiders next game is against Needham at the Lowell Field on Sept 22nd 9am.
