Stella, Cece, Score Key Runs

The Watertown 12U Raiders finished their Fall season with two more huge wins. The Raiders took on a very strong team from Needham on a crisp Fall Sunday morning and  once again came out on top.
In game one of the double header Needham struck first by taking a 1-0 advantage. But Caroline Costa would keep her team in the game by not allowing any more runs. The team from Needham would hold on to their 1-0 lead until the Raiders were able to finally break it open in the bottom of the third. With two outs on them, Stella Papadopoulou came up with a big hit. It was just the spark the team needed as Papadopoulou was later able to come around with the tying run. Now it was Cece Robinson's turn to shine. Robinson, who also got on board, was able to steal home after avoiding a tag in a game of cat n mouse in a rundown. Robinson's steal got the Raiders the go ahead run which would stand as the winning one as the combination of Costa and Christine MacLeod would not allow in another run. Final score, Watertown 11 ~ Needham 1.
In game two Watertown didn't waste anytime by getting on board and quickly jumped out to an 11-2 advantage. But Needham was going to make a game of it. In the bottom of the third their number 4 hitter launched a bomb for a home run to get her team a little closer - making it 11-6 Watertown. Destiny Santalucia quickly shook it off and battled back and recorded the next three outs via the K. Santalucia would go on to earn herself 9 strikeouts in the game.
Needham would not be the only team to get a home run on this beautiful Fall Sunday morning. Stephanie Laskaris would get not one, not two, but THREE home runs! Some other note worthy moments had Amelia Doyle,  whom was pressed into action as catcher,  call a great game from behind the plate.  Robinson reached base successfully in every at bat of both games. Jacqui Schwalm, MacLeod and Laskaris reached base safely 5 out of 6 at bats. Kate Myler would reach 3 out of 4 times and earn another stolen home base. Jacquie Furbish would get 5 big put outs at first. Ashley Nygren had a key RBI to keep the Raiders rally alive and  Sarah Benites had another key hit and stolen base to home.
The 12U Raiders finished their remarkable season at 9-1. The only loss came from Newton whom they were later able to beat in the rematch.
