Summer Softball is well underway!!

The WYBB Softball program opened with a bang! We have 10U, 12U and 18U teams that are competing this year. On Tuesday June 25th our first ever 10U Summer Softball team, the Watertown Wildcats, took on the Chelmsford Blue Crush at Bemis Park. A much more experienced Chelmsford team took this game but our girls showed that they could compete by putting up 5 runs!! On the same night our 12U girls, the Watertown Raiders, were taking on the Woburn Orange Crush at the Lowell Field. The Watertown girls were leading for most of the game but had it just slip away in the last inning by a score of 8-7. But they did not hang their heads down low as they were proud of the effort they put forth. On the very next night they took on the Charlestown Townies in Charlestown and put together some football like numbers to come away with a 17-15 win! While the 12U girls were competing in Charlestown the 18U girls, who call themselves the Summer Hawks, were away playing the Lincoln/Sudbury Warriors. The 18U team is a combined team of Waltham and Watertown players. This was their first time playing together as a team and they came up big with a 10-3 win. As coach Stephen McGovern put it “The kids play well together especially with 2 separate groups coming together as 1 for the first time. The kids were upbeat and cheering each other on the whole night. We banked a 10-3 win against a pretty good team”.

Pictured here is our 12U team posing in Charlestown before their first win of the season. The 12U girls on the Watertown Raiders team are: Haley Bass, Sarah Benites, Caroline Costa, Arianna Curry, Amelia Doyle, Claire Gabel, Winter Mahon, Kate Myler, Anna and Catherine Papayannopoulus, Destiny Santalucia, Alyssa and Aiden Carroll, Christine Zhu and Christine MacLeod
