Watertown 12U Raiders Even Their Record at 2-2

As storms passed to the North and South Monday night, not a drop of rain fell at the Bridge School in Lexington ~ where the Watertown Raiders 12U softball team took on a very strong Lexington Gaels team. Watertown struck first by scoring 6 runs in the 1st. Scoring the runs for the Raiders were Destiny Santalucia, Caroline Costa, Catherine Papayannopoulus, Arianna Curry, Amelia Doyle and Aiden Carroll. The Lexington team fought back and took control of the game in the 4th inning with an 11-9 advantage. Their lead would have been greater if not for the great defensive plays of Amelia at 3rd base and the 2nd base / shortstop combo of Arianna and Destiny. Holding down the outfield with a steady error free game was Anna Papayannopoulus, Aiden, Haley Bass, Kate Myler and Alyssa Carroll.    Lexington's lead was short-lived however as Watertown struck with another 6 runs, The timely good at bats came from Aiden, Alyssa, Anna and Kate. Haley Bass, making the jump from 10U to 12U, singled in the two go ahead runs. Each Watertown player had now reached base safely twice for the game and led 15-11.

The Bottom of the 4th saw the pitching / catching combo of Caroline and Christine MacLeod switch. Christine pitched the last two innings with great success, recording 5 strike outs and allowing only one run. The last out of the game was an unassisted ground out to 1st by Catherine.
