Perkins School to be Featured on NBC's Rock Center Tonight

The piece focuses on a film and video class taught at the school for the blind in Watertown.

A film and video class taught at Perkins School for the Blind will be featured on NBC's "Rock Center" on Friday, May 24. Last spring, the school was visited by NBC's Harry Smith, who did the story on teacher Jeff Migliozzi, who is blind, and his students in the class at the school located in Watertown.  Three years ago, the class worked with Emerson College Executive Artist-in-Residence Kevin Bright, who was executive producer of "Friends." A piece made by a Perkins student, who was taught by Bright, won an award at a film festival in Austin, Texas. The piece will air on "Rock Center" tonight at 10 p.m. on WHDH-TV, Channel 7 in Boston.  See the Rock Center website for more information.

New Coach, New Winning Tradition for Watertown's Girls Lacrosse Team

The Raiders earned a trip to the MIAA tournament after an undefeated regular season.

Coach Eileen Donahue has not lost a game all year at Watertown High School - and that includes two different sport: field hockey and girls lacrosse. The Raiders girls lacrosse team finished the regular season with a record of 16-0-1, and earned the No. 6 seed in the MIAA Div. 2 North Section tournament. They will face No. 11 seed Newburyport (11-6) on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 p.m. at Victory Field. Donahue is well known for her team's dominance in field hockey - in which the Raiders have won four straight state titles - but Watertown has not had the same winning tradition on the lacrosse field. That is, until Donahue took over this year.  Over the previous two years the Raiders only won 10 games, and failed to qualify for the state tourney. …

The developments come as investigators say they are still actively examining the case.

While authorities have reportedly pinned the murders of three men in a Waltham home on two Chechen men, the case remains an active investigation as additional details emerge. “The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office continues its open and active investigation into the triple homicide that occurred in Waltham in 2011, working closely with the Massachusetts State Police, Waltham Police and the FBI,” a statement from the DA’s office reads. "This investigation has not concluded and is by no means closed.” The DA’s office also said it cannot comment on any details, citing rules of conduct for prosecutors. The DA’s comments come one day after authorities told several news outlets that Ibragim Todashev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who were friends, …

Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said.  "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011.  In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand.
