The Raiders boys' basketball team seeks a third state title today in Worcester.
Watertown could not hit the shots down the stretch. They kept it close, but Whitinsville hit enough free throws to pull away at the end. Watertown cruised past Cardinal Spellman 56-36 at TD Garden Tuesday afternoon. Senior Marco Coppola scored 26 points in the win. The Raiders will play Saturday in the MIAA Div. 3 state final in Worcester.

LOWELL – If defense wins championships, then the Watertown boys' basketball team can start making room in the trophy case for another title very soon. At Tsongas Center in front of a ruckus Watertown crowd equipped with native American head wear, fake tomahawks and a sea of black clothing, the boys hoops team rolled over Newburyport 55-31 with a dominating defensive effort, and clinched the MIAA Div. 3 North Section championship. Raiders boys' hoops team remains unbeaten on home floor.
It was a Super Sunday for the Watertown boys' basketball team. Hours before the Green Bay Packers beat the Steelers, the Watertown Raiders had their own matinee game at Watertown High School, dominating visiting Melrose 65-44, and staying unbeaten on their home floor in the process. The home Raiders were led by Marco Coppola, Tyler Romanelli, Danny Kelly, Connor Stockdale and Alex DiPietrantonio. Watertown High School boys' basketball team defeats Stoneham High 70-37 at home Friday.
After getting comfortable with their opponent, the Watertown High School boys' basketball team mustered up enough confidence to achieve a victory over Stoneham home Friday. Watertown head coach Steve Harrington was pleased with the win and felt that "once we made a few shots, that energized us on defense." Harrington continued to talk about the teams improvement adding, "Continually playing with confidence and getting the other guys to contribute, when that happens we're a pretty good team." Leading scorers were team captain Marco Coppola with 22 points, and Connor Stockdale with 18. The final score of the game was Watertown 70, Stoneham 37. Raiders fall to 10-1 after a 61-52 loss on the road to the Rockets. Watertown girls' basketball team falls at Reading, too.
The Watertown High School boys' basketball team was handed its first loss of the season Tuesday night on the road, 61-52, despite Marco Coppola scoring 30 points. The Reading High boys' basketball team was down on its luck after suffering a three-game losing streak and a losing record to start its season, but The Rockets showed signs of life during their match up with the Raiders. They locked in the victory and improved their record to 4-6 in the process. "It’s a nice win for us," said Reading coach Paul Morrissey. "It gives us a little life, and hopefully we can run with that a little bit. This league is a slugfest right now and at least we stayed in the fight."
