Andrea Faherty learned recently she has terminal liver cancer, and friends are trying to raise money to help her and her two boys.
Friends and family of Watertown native Andrea Faherty Soloman have rallied around her after she learned that she has late stage liver cancer. They have started a fund-raising drive to raise money for the single mother and her two boys. The diagnosis came on quickly, with a clean physical one month and a few months later she learned she had Stage 4 metastic liver cancer. The chemo and pain from the cancer has left Faherty unable to work, said friend and Watertown resident Christine Woodbury. A group started a drive on GiveForward.com to raise money for Faherty and her family, who now live in Methuen. Ario battled cancer at a young age, but has returned to school and even helps other youngster facing cancer at Mass. General Hospital.
Name: Ario Nour Age: 7 Activities: Mentors young cancer patients and enjoys playing soccer with friends. What Makes Ario so Awesome?: Ario was diagnosed with brain tumor last summer, and had 10 hours of brain surgery in July. Through all this he managed to continue with radiation therapy and returned to school last fall. When he first returned to school, Ario was going to class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Now, his parents – Zohreh Firouzabdian and Naveed Nour – say he has managed to stay from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and even plays soccer with friends after school some days. Now that he has returned to school he educates his classmates about cancer in children, and he is also a mentor to other pediatric cancer patients at Mass. General Hospital. MGH …

Ann Labadini Hamel (1955-2010) embodied the spirit of Watertown and brought it out in others. This is not an obituary; it is a snapshot of a woman who touched many people in this town. It is also a testament to the spirit of the town and its people. Ann Labadini and I graduated from high school together. Because we went to the same schools since elementary school, I've known her for a long time but since graduation, the only time I saw her was at high school reunions. I remember talking to her at our most recent reunion, which she'd helped to arrange, and she was extremely upbeat and lively. The next time I 'saw' her was on Facebook, where Watertown has a good presence. Several of my "Facebook friends" are folks from WHS, class of 1973. …
