A String of Car Break Ins Reported Around Watertown

Money and other small items were taken from the unlocked vehicles.

A string of car break ins were reported around town on Jan. 7, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. A Hillside Road resident came out early on Jan 7 and found that someone had broken into her Toyota Highland while it was parked in her driveway. “She left it unlocked and when she came out at 5 a.m. she observed fresh vomit on the driver’s seat of her motor vehicle and the car was rummaged through,” Lawn said. “Nothing appeared to be missing.” The neighbor across the street told police that someone broke into her Toyota Camry as it was parked in her driveway. “There were no signs of forced entry, and $30 in change was stolen from the center console,” Lawn said. Watertown Police Arrest Belmont Man, Believe He is Responsible for String of Car Break Ins

The man was caught by a resident going through a car on Edenfield Avenue.

Police arrested a Belmont man after he was caught going through a car on Edenfield Road on Oct. 9 at 12:38 a.m. They believe he is behind a string of car break ins around Watertown. The suspect, Maximillian B. Smith-Marder of Belmont, was stopped by an alert resident, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. "The boyfriend of resident was leaving when he observed an individual inside his girlfriends' father's car," Lawn said. "The suspect saw him and took off running, but the boyfriend chased him and caught him." Police found items from other break ins when they searched Smith-Marder, Lawn said. Lock Your Cars, Watertown; Police Looking for Suspect in String of Break Ins

A diamond ring, a purse and a dozen old walkie-talkies were taken from unlocked cars around Watertown.

  Lock your car doors, Watertown. Police seek a suspect in a string of more than a dozen car break ins over the past week where the vehicles targeted were left unlocked. The break ins began on Sept. 10, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn, when a CD case with 25 CDs inside was taken from a Chevy Impala on Pine Street. That same night, two vehicles - a Toyota Sequoia and a Toyota Highlander - were broken into, and several electronic items were taken including a Garmin GPS device. On Sept. 11, a Bromfield Street resident reported that a 2007 Subaru was broken into and a GPS and an iPod Nano were taken. Gatorade Links a String of Car Break Ins in East Watertown to a Stolen Car

Police found a Gatorade bottle in a stolen car which they believe was taken from another car broken into in the same area.

Police officer discovered a car with its doors open early on the morning of May 7, and the only thing missing appeared to be two bottles of Gatorade – which turned up later. The 1994 Ford Van was found on Prentiss Street and when officers looked inside they found two bottles of Gatorade were missing from a case inside the van, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. As they searched the area, police spotted a 1993 Buick Skylark with its trunk, driver's side front and read doors all open, Lawn said. "Inside they found an open container of Gatorade leaning against a jacket," Lawn said. Nearby on Dewey Street, police found a 1995 Buick with its doors open, but nothing appeared to be missing. Watertown Man Arrested for String of Car Break-ins

Police caught him after he broke into at least seven cars.

Watertown Police arrested a 22-year old man suspected to be behind a spree of car break-ins on the night of May 17, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. A resident reported of a break in to a home and a car break in on Prospect Street in the early hours of May 17. While police were investigating they noticed an open passenger side door on a Honda CRV. Two GPS devices, a laptop and two wallets were found on the seat, Lawn said, one belonging to a Prospect Street resident. The second wallet found in the Honda belonged to Maximillian B. Smith-Marder, Lawn said. While police spoke with residents about the break-ins, a man in gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants was spotted ducking into the open door of the Honda.
