Voters came out in large numbers for Tuesday's state election, but turnout did not quite reach the 60 percent seen in prior governor's elections.
Tuesday's state election drew 12,011 Watertown voters, which equals 56 percent of the registered voters in town, according to the unofficial election results released by the Watertown Town Clerk's office. Turnout was slightly lower than Town Clerk John Flynn's expectation of 60 percent. That is the typical turnout for a governor's election, he said Tuesday. Watertown voters solidly supported state Rep. Peter Koutoujian (D-Waltham) who won another term in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. The Waltham Democrat received 74 percent of the vote in the district, which includes all of Waltham and parts of Watertown and Newton. In Watertown, where he represents Precinct 10, Koutoujian received 785 votes, which equaled 70 percent of the …

The duel between Deval Patrick and Charlie Baker has helped bring voters to the polls in high numbers. Town Clerk John Flynn expects about 60 percent turnout.
Voters have turned up in large numbers to vote today, said Watertown Town Clerk John Flynn, in the election which features the race for governor, three ballot questions and some local state officials. "It's too early to know the total turnout, but activity is busy up at the polling locations," Flynn said. The turnout could be as high as 60 percent, Flynn said. "That's the norm for an election with a governor's race," Flynn said. The race between Gov. Deval Patrick and Republican challenger Charlie Baker caught the interest of voters. Church Street resident Fred Pitcher said he had a very hard time choosing between Baker and Patrick, and did not come to a final decision until 2 a.m. on election day. He decided to support Patrick. "He did a …

After 14 years in office, state Rep. Koutoujian runs for reelection in Middlesex's 10th District against political newcomer James E. Dixon and against general anti-incumbent sentiment.
For 14 years, state Rep. Peter J. Koutoujian, a Democrat of Waltham, has occupied the seat of state representative for Middlesex's 10th District. During three election cycles, his position went unchallenged and he outdid his last opponent in 2006 by a 59-point margin at the polls, according to data from Massachusetts' Elections Division. He represents Waltham, parts of Newton and precinct 10 in Watertown, which votes at the new Police Station. But this year, he is taking on political newcomer James E. Dixon — an airline captain and Republican from Waltham who advocates smaller government — and it is yet to be seen how increased anti-incumbent sentiment will affect Koutoujian's bid for reelection. In a recent debate with Dixon at Lassell …

uh Bostonrob, you sure spend a lot of time in the 'burbs for a Bostonrob. But at least your'e bright enough to admit that Watertown roads are in crap shape. Ya gotta wonder why that lardass Gerry Mee doesn't spend more of the money he has stashed in the DPW budget on road repair. It would make it a lot easier for him and his crews to get to the Dunkin'. Oh and just so you know, Sandy Cheeks is my…   more ›
