Highlights of Watertown-Mt. Alvernia Girl's Soccer Game

Watertown and Mt. Alvernia played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon.

The Raiders closed out their season with a 1-1 tie with visiting Mt. Alvernia. The contest at Filippello Park was the final match of the year. Watertown finished with a record of 7-9-2.

Watertown Girl's Soccer Team Ties with Mt. Alvernia

Raiders get a 1-1 tie in the team's final game of the year. Watertown will narrowly miss the MIAA playoffs and have a record of 7-9-2

Watertown High School's girl's soccer team took a second half lead in the game at Filippello Park but Mt. Alvernia responded quickly as both teams closed out their seasons with a tie Tuesday. The Raiders pressured the visitors throughout the game, and had many more shots and corner kicks, but could not finish their opportunities, said Watertown coach Stacie Marino. "It was a close battle, a closely played game," Marino said. "We out shot them and out played them. We should have won, but we'll take a tie." Watertown Girls Soccer Team Defeats Malden

Red Raiders pour on the offense, scoring five goals in the victory over Malden, Monday, at Filipello Park.

The Watertown High School girl's soccer team put the pressure on Malden all game and walked away with a 5-1 win at Filippello Field, Monday.  Watertown opened the scoring almost immediately when Carolyn Stewart sent a shot toward the bottom left corner of the net to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead just 1:17 into the match. Malden tied it up at the 10:29 mark on a goal by Devon Moran, but Watertown took the lead on a goal by Angela Harrington just before the end of the first half. The Raiders ratcheted up the pressure in the second half as Watertown scored three more goals to seal the 5-1 win. Things could have been much worse, however, if it wasn't for the impressive play of the Malden defense and sophomore goalie Christina Ascolillo. …
