Solar System at WHS the Start of Green Energy in Town
Supporters of clean energy production celebrated the dedication of the new photovoltaic system at Watertown High School. Producing $1,000 worth of electricity a year, it is just the first project installed on town buildings.
Individual solar panels may have been around Watertown for awhile, but the first municipal effort to gather the sun's light to create electricity started with the photovoltaic system installed on the roof of Watertown High School. Earlier this month, a group of supporters of the Watertown Solar Challenge gathered in the high school to celebrate the official dedication of the system. The group took advantage of a grant program offered by Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and Mass Energy, groups seeking to encourage the use of solar power, among other things.
