Watertown RMV Worker Busted For Bribery, Corruption

The RMV worker will appear in court on Nov. 16.

An employee of the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Watertown was arrested on Nov. 16 on charges of bribery and corruption, according to federal immigration authorities. Adriana Ferreira will appear in Suffolk Superior Court later today on charges of bribery, corruption and larceny, according the federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency.  Ferreira, a naturalized U.S. citizen was arrested by State Police detecetives and ICE agents in Watertown.  For up-to-the-minute news on this and other stories follow Watertown Patch on Twitter and Facebook or subscribe to the free email newsletter. Snow Getting all Wet in Watertown

The winter storm has turned from snow to sleet and now rain.

The second part of the two-day winter storm has seen the snow turn into sleet, and then rain, which will reduce the snow fall in Watertown to about 5 1/2 inches Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. As temperatures drop this evening, the rain is expected to turn to sleet and snow, and then snow after midnight. The winter storm warning ends at 1 a.m. Thursday. The foul weather has had impacts on Watertown. The schools closed for the day and the Department of Recreation cancelled its activities for the day. Gov. Deval Patrick told non-emergency employees who work in the Executive Branch of state government they do not have to report to their workplaces on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Watertown Man Linked to Bombing Plot Faces Federal Charges

Aftab Ali charged with fraud and making false statements to immigration officials.

Aftab Ali, the 28 year old former Watertown resident linked to the planned car bombing of Time Square, faces charges of immigration document fraud and making false statements to Immigration Customs Enforcement, after a complaint was filed Tuesday in Boston Federal Court. Federal investigators found that Ali had received cell phone calls from Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani-American who admitted to parking an sport utility vehicle filled with explosives in New York City's Times Square on May 1, 2010, according to testimony submitted to Federal Court on Nov. 4 by ICE agent Timothy Irving. Phone records also show Shahzad made calls to the Mobil gas station in Brookline where Ali worked, according to court documents. Ali also borrowed $5,000 from …
