Watertown Vigil for Newtown is Friday

Vigil is at 7 p.m.

A vigil for the victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting on Dec. 14 is being held in Watertown on Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. The vigil, being organized by Barbara-Seda Aghamianz, will be held at Saltonstall Park between Town Hall and the Boys & Girls Club.

Rep. Markey Responds to Newtown Massacre, Urges Stricter Gun Controls

Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), dean of the New England Congressional delegation, issued the following statement after the fatal school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Rep. Markey's statement: “Today’s news of the horrific school shooting of students, teachers and staff is shocking and horrifying, and my deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives today in such a senseless and tragic event. The following information is from the Rev. Amy McCreath, Church of the Good Shepherd, Watertown: Most of you will have heard by now about the horrific shooting that took place today at the elementary school in Sandy Hook, Conn. Watertown Superintendent Talks Emergency Preparedness Following Conn. School Shooting

Jean Fitzgerald talks emergency preparedness and communication following Friday's fatal school shooting in Connecticut.

Watertown Superintendent Jean Fitzgerald said Friday afternoon in the wake of a fatal school shooting in Newtown, Conn., that Watertown officials have a plan in place if tragedy were ever to strike at a school in the city. “First, let me say our hearts go out to the people of Newtown,” Fitzgerald said. “We have no reason to believe this is anything but an isolated incident.” News reports Dec. 14 indicate 27 people were killed Friday morning in Newtown, Conn., when officials say a 24-year-old man opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
