The Raiders rode the arm of pitcher Brian Cristello to the win.

The game, which was played at Belmont High School due to the renovation of Victory Field, remained scoreless through three-and-a-half innings, but the Raiders got on the board when first baseman Timmy Geagan hit a drive to right-center. "We had some timely hitting, I thought that was big," said Watertown head coach Joe Chiodo. "Timmy had a big triple." Geagan then came home when the umpire called a balk on Woburn pitcher David Pratt. Despite Successful Season, Future of Raiders Girls' Hockey is Up in the Air

The MIAA rules state that co-op teams are approved for two years. This past season was the fourth year of the Watertown/Melrose girls' hockey team, and athletic directors from the schools will try to extend it another two.

Since becoming a cooperative team four years ago, the Watertown/Melrose girls hockey team hasn’t exactly been a powerhouse in the Middlesex League. For most of that time the Raiders hovered near the bottom of the standings. But that all changed this season, as Watertown/Melrose surged to a 14-3-5 record to finish third in the league and qualify for the Div. 1 North sectional as the 10th seed.  The Raiders beat Framingham 1-0 in a nail-biting preliminary round game, but would eventually fall to seventh-seeded Lexington 5-1 in the first round.  Most teams would look at making the tournament as a good thing, but having such a successful year may prove to be the downfall of the Watertown/Melrose co-op.  According to MIAA rules, co-op teams are…
