Season ends in section quarterfinals of the State Tournament.
The Raiders run through the North Section boys' hockey tournament ended Friday when they ran into Concord-Carlisle. Watertown fell 2-1 in the section quarterfinal at O'Brien Rink in Woburn. The Raiders, who came in as the 13th seed, finished the season with a record of 10-10-2. The 12th-seeded Patriots improved to 12-8-2 and move on to the section semifinal against Danvers.

The Raiders move on to the second round after defeating fourth seeded Tewksbury.
The statistics look bad, but Watertown came out on top where it counts in Tuesday's boys' hockey state tournament game against Tewksbury. The Raiders were outshot by the host team 47-16, but Watertown goalie Anthony Busconi stopped all but two of the shots in the 3-2 win in the Div. 2 North Section game, according to a report in the Lowell Sun. Watertown (10-9-2), which came in as the 13th seed, upset the fourth seed Tewksbury (14-4-1). The Raiders move on to the quarterfinals to face Concord-Carlisle. The No. 12 seed beat No. 5 Newburyport 4-2. The Raiders play Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m. at O'Brien Rink in Woburn.

Arlington skated out of Watertown with a shutout win.
Familiar foes Watertown/Melrose and Arlington met for the second time this season with the same outcome - a Spy Ponders win - but this time the stakes were higher as the teams met in the MIAA Girls' Ice Hockey State Tournament. Arlington struck early in the game played at John Ryan Arena in Watertown. Senior Carolyn Woodin scored 1:36 into the game. Senior Shannon Hickey and junior Meredith Gallagher assisted on the play. The Raiders had their shot to even the score, with two power plays late in the first period. Watertown could not cash in on either. The Raiders have two teams in the ice hockey state tournament.
Two Watertown High School hockey squads made the MIAA state tournament, with the girls hosting their first round game and the boys heading out on the road. The girls' team received the 14th seed in the MIAA North Section Div. 1 tournament and the team hosts Arlington today at 5 p.m. at the Ryan Skating Arena. The Raiders finished the regular season with a record of 13-7-2, while No. 19 seed Arlington has a record of 11-8-1. Arlington, which is also in the Middlesex League, won the regular season game between the two teams, 3-1.
