Learn About Plans to Renovate Watertown's Casey Park

The following information was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department: Some big changes could be coming to Casey Park, and residents can find out more at a community meeting on Jan. 8. The large park on Watertown Street south of the river includes a little league baseball field, basketball courts, tennis courts and a children's play structure. Recently, Recreation Director Peter Centola presented potential upgrades to the Town Council, including: building an outdoor ice/street hockey rink, repairs to the tennis courts and upgrades to the baseball field. A 4th of July Celebration Planned at Watertown's Victory Field

Games, prizes, baseball games and free food and refreshments will be provided by the Watertown Recreation Department.

Looking for something for the kids to do on the Fourth of July, well the Watertown Recreation Department has activities planned at Victory Field, plus there is the all-star youth baseball games. The activities run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there will be games and prizes for chidren of all ages, and free hamburgers, hot dogs and refresshments beginning at 10:30 a.m. This will be the first time that this event will be held on the new Victory Field. There is limited parking at the field, but you can also use the Public Works lot adjacent to Victory at 124 Orchard Street. Renovation of Victory Field to be Discussed at Recreation Department Open Forum

Recreation Department Director Peter Centola will discuss the fundraising for the field and other items at the Open Forum, Tuesday night.

The renovation of Victory Field and the fund-raising effort for the project will be among topics discussed at the Recreations Department's Open Forum Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Recreation Director Peter Centola will be on hand to discuss the renovation of the field, along with projects at Casey Memorial Park and at the park behind the new Police Station, at 552 Main Street. Winter and spring program planning will also be on the agenda. The meeting will be held in the Lower Hearing Room in Town Hall.

Winter Recreational Programs For This Year

The Department of Recreation has created new programs for this winter to keep the kids active

This winter Watertown is trying to keep those kids excited. As they do every year the Department of Recreation is in the process of tweaking the old winter programs and creating some new ones as well. New programs include Little Shooters, a basic basketball training for kids between kindergarten and first grades, and the middle school basketball program. In the Little Shooters, children will learn the basics of basketball, such as passing, dribbling, shooting and defense. The middle school basketball program is open to girls and boys, and participants start with a 15 minute mini-clinic and then play a game. They have also added discounted tickets to Bruins and Celtics games, as well as Disney Princesses on Ice. The tickets are all seated …
