Editor: I would like to congratulate Will Brownsberger for his re-election to the State Senate in the recent election. I can honestly say that one of the best things about my race was getting to know the Senator. And while we may disagree politically, I must admit that I found him to be a sincere and genuine person who takes his position seriously, and who does in fact care deeply about his constituents. I wish him all the best in the future. Admittedly it was a rough year for the Republican Party. What we have been doing in the past clearly is not working. The Republican hopefuls running for state representative and state senate stressed the need to make Massachusetts more business friendly and to cut spending by the Legislature, during a candidates night in Watertown. The GOP candidates met supporters Monday night at a meet the candidates event at the Marine Corp League's Shutt Detachment. The following was information was released by Robert McCarthy's campaign: Robert B. McCarthy, a Watertown Democrat, announced today that he has taken out nomination papers for the office of State Senator representing the new Second Suffolk and Middlesex Senate District. McCarthy was a candidate for Senate Senate in a special election held last December to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the Senator Steven Tolman, now President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. In a race that included four candidates, McCarthy came in second in each of the district’s communities, which included Belmont, Watertown, Cambridge and Boston. Acting like King Solomon, a leading state environmental group decided to split its endorsement for the special State Senate election down the middle rather then disappoint a dedicated supporter. As a result, State Rep. Will Brownsberger of Belmont and Watertown's Rep. The following release was sent out by the Robert McCarthy for Senate campaign: On Monday, less than one week after officially announcing that he is a candidate for State Senate in the Second Suffolk and Middlesex Senate district, Bob McCarthy submitted 550 signatures to local city election offices. My name is Will Brownsberger, and I want to introduce myself to residents of Watertown as a candidate for State Senate. As State Senator, I will draw on 30 years of experience in business, law and state/local government. I grew up in Watertown and live in Belmont with my wife and youngest daughter. We live in a two-family house, upstairs from my parents who recently moved from Watertown to join us. My middle daughter is in college and my eldest daughter is a civil engineer. Also picks up first endorsements in race with Watertown state Rep. Hecht.
In the first week of his campaign for the Second Suffolk & Middlesex senate seat, Belmont Democrat state Rep. Will Brownsberger announced Wednesday that he has taken in $40,000 in contributions. Brownsberger also announced that the Belmont Democratic Town Committee and the Cambridge Ward 11 Democrats voted to endorse him this week. Currently, only Watertown state Rep.
