Watertown's newest sporting good store will open its doors on May 12, and the Sporting Authority will have prize give-aways during the grand opening event. The 30,000-square-foot store will feature a full line of sports equipment, shoes and clothing. Sports Authority will open in the Arsenal Mall and will go into the space formerly occupied by Filene's Basement. Shoppers on the opening day will have the chance to win hundreds of dollars in cash prizes. Sports Authority will move into the spot that Filene's Basement will soon vacate, the owners of the Arsenal Mall announced Wednesday, Nov. 9. Simon Property Group Inc.'s press release says the sporting goods chain will open a 33,000-square-foot store in Watertown by the spring of 2012.
