The death does not appear to be suspicious, officials said.
[Updated at 10:11 a.m.] A body was found Thursday morning on the banks of the Charles River in Watertown near the Arsenal Street Bridge. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said that they do not think there was foul play in the death. "It appears to be non-suspicious," said MaryBeth Long, a spokeswoman with the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. "Investigators are still on the scene." A boater on the river spotted the body, according to a report by Channel 7 News. Greenough Boulevard, near the crime scene, is closed off, but Public Works crews shut it down for a water main break. The pair allegedly attempted to flee State Police, but were caught in car stolen from Watertown.
Two individuals will face charges for allegedly robbing banks in Waltham and Arlington on Jan. 8, according to State Police. Andrea Koutis, 30, of Arlington and Erik Stout, 35, of Somerville, will face charges for allegedly robbing the East Cambridge Savings Bank in Arlington and the Sovereign Bank on Trapelo Road in Waltham, according to State Police. They are also facing charges for attempting to flee State Police later in the day. Investigators discovered evidence indicating the pair robbed the Arlington bank at around 4:15 p.m. and robbed the Waltham bank approximately 20 minutes later. The Massachusetts State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating two individuals for their possible connection to two bank robberies on Jan. 8, including one in Waltham, according to State Police. State Police release new details in the crash this morning, which caused a backup in traffic along 128 and The Mass. Pike.
A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 128 this morning near the Newton rest area, between Route 16 and Grove Street. He was in the median strip, and may have been struck while trying to cross the highway around 6:30 a.m. Just after 6:30 a.m. this morning, State Police say an 18-year-old man was killed while crossing Rte. 128 on foot. According to a press release just sent, he was hit by the car on the sorthbound side of the highway, and was thrown across the median onto the southbound side of the road, where he was hit by another vehicle. The car was reportedly dumped at Victory Field.
Police are searching for a suspect who dumped a stolen a vehicle at Victory Field in Watertown, according to Twitter reports. The suspect reportedly dumped the car at the field after a chase that took him from Belmont into Watertown, according to Twitter user @alertnewengland. State Police are using a K-9 dog in the search. The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police will hold a vehicle checkpoint on Saturday, Sept. 3 into the early hours of Sunday, according to State Police. Police will be stopping vehicles to find potentially drunk drivers between somewhere in Middlesex County, which includes Watertown. As is normal practice, police do not disclose the hours or locations of the checkpoints. A Massachusetts State Trooper backed into a pedestrian in the Roche Bros. parking plaza Tuesday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a Massachusetts State Trooper backed out of his parking spot in the Roche Bros. parking plaza in Acton when he struck a 38-year-old Watertown male. There were no serious injuries, but the Watertown male was sent to Emerson Hospital for wrist injuries which he received when he flung his hands out in a reaction to stop the car. An ambulance arrived on scene along with the Massachusetts Investigative Crime Scene team. “Everything about the crash points to it being an accident, but non the less we will undergo an investigation, fully,” said David Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police.
