There must be something in the water, because a national survey ranked two Watertown companies among the top 150 places to work in the nation. Watertown businesses Tufts Health Plan and athenahealth joined 11 other Massachusetts companies on the list of best businesses to work for compiled by WorkplaceDynamics of Exton, Pa., according to a report in the Boston Globe. The rankings come weeks after Fortune Magazine named Watertown-based Bright Horizons as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." Solar panels power the flashing yellow lights at the crosswalk near the Tufts Health Plan offices.
The following information was provided by Tufts Health Plan: Solar powered pedestrian signs were recently installed on both sides of the crosswalk at 705 Mount Auburn St. in front of Watertown-based health insurer Tufts Health Plan. The state-of-the-art fixtures include a solar panel with a battery backup and a crosswalk sign with flashing yellow LED lights to alert approaching drivers. The flashing lights can be activated by either pressing a button or by motion detectors mounted on the light poles that sense when a person is standing at the crosswalk. The Grape Arbor provides a lovely backdrop for couples tying the knot at the Commander's Mansion, and now it will shine almost as much as the bride and groom after volunteers from Tufts Health Plan fixed it up. On Thursday, around 67 employees from the Tufts Health Plan headquarters on Mt. Auburn Street spend the day working at the Commander's Mansion as well as nearby Arsenal Park sprucing up the facilities. The effort was part of the Tufts Health Plan's effort to do projects around the community, said Pam Giannatisis, senior manager of corporate communications. A group of volunteers helped clean up the outdoor facilities at the historic mansion in the Watertown Arsenal.
A group from Tufts Health Plan headed over to the Commander's Mansion to do some cleaning on the grounds of the Commander's Mansion, last week. The volunteers power washed the arbor next to the historic house that used to serve as the home for the commanding officer of the Watertown Arsenal when it was a U.S. Army facility. Even more volunteers from Tufts Health Plan will return next week to do more power washing and do repairs to the arbor, said Facility Manager Tammy McKenna, which often is used for weddings and other events at the Commander's Mansion.

Tufts Health Plan made the following announcement: Tufts Health Plan announced June 28 that it has been awarded two Excellence in Commuter Options awards (ECO) by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The nationally recognized health plan was given the Innovation Excellence award for its parking incentive program, which provides employees a cash incentive to leave their car at home. It was also one of 28 companies to win a Pinnacle award, the highest ECO honor.
