98.5 The Sports Hub hosts Tony Massarotti and Michael Felger came to Watertown to see if they could do better than the Baltimore Ravens kicker.
Having criticized Baltimore Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff for shanking the game-tying 32-yard field goal against the Patriots, sports radio hosts Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti tested their kicking skills at Watertown’s Victory Field Tuesday. Placing the ball at the 22-yard line (with the 10 yard end zone making a total of 32) of Watertown’s new artificial turf, the hosts from 98.5 FM The Sports Hub gave it a whirl – and found it was not so easy. After their crew missed on their three attempts, Felger stepped up and hit two-of-three and Mazz missed all three. “It’s hard – legit,” Felger said. “But (Cundiff) should have made it.” Massarotti, who lived in the East End of Watertown until age 13, said he had kicked some field goals growing…

The field opened for football practice for the first time since the renovation, and the Belmont game on Thanksgiving will be the new turf's first event.
The gray, rainy skies did not dampen the mood of Watertown High School's football players Wednesday afternoon as they got their first shot at practicing on the new artificial turf at Victory Field. The first event to be played on the new field will be the Watertown-Belmont football game on Thanksgiving Day. Along with the the football team, Victory Field will be home for the WHS baseball, field hockey, boys' and girls' soccer and boys' and girls' lacrosse teams. The field will also be used by youth sports teams, adult sports teams and for other activities. Recreation Department Director Peter Centola came out to see the field in use. The renovation of Victory Field will not be completed in time for the beginning of the Raiders' football season.
Watertown High School’s football schedule is out and the Raiders will host the first two games, however, with Victory Field being renovated, the games will be played at Woburn High School. The Watertown schedule went up on HighSchoolSports.net, and includes 11 regular season games including five home games, and a scrimmage in August. Athletic Director Michael Lahiff said this spring that the installation of the artificial turf at Victory Field would mean some of the Raiders games would be played outside of town. There is only one home game in October, on the 14th against Stoneham. Currently the location of that game is listed as “to be announced.” The final to home games – On Nov. 11 against Wakefield and the Thanksgiving game against …

The road will be closed during the day while the bases for new light poles are installed at Victory Field.
A portion of Marion Road will be closed to all vehicles, as well as to pedestrian traffic, on Tuesday, June 28 while new light pole bases are installed at Victory Field, said Recreation Superintendent Peter Centola. The area will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow construction crews to begin installing new lighting system for Victory Field. The football and baseball fields are being renovated over the summer. The project includes the installation of an artificial turf field and other improvements. While the road will be closed, the track, tennis courts and playground will remain open on Tuesday, Centola said.
