Parents of actors in the Watertown Children's Theatre's production of "The Pajama Game" learned to their surprise Thursday that the show won't go on. The WCT provided few details to parents in the email notifying them about the cancelation, saying just that it was "due to sudden, unforeseen and insurmountable production issues." Theatre officials responded to an inquiry by Patch saying they are not commenting "at this time." WTC will hold a meeting parents with children in the production Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Mosesian Theater. A discussion about why the play was canceled will be held at the meeting. The Watertown Community Foundation provided a grant to allow the public to see the latest show from the Watertown Children's Theatre.
Town residents can catch a free dress rehearsal of the final dress rehearsal of the Watertown Children's Theatre's production of "Oliver!", thanks to a grant from the Watertown Community Foundation. A cast of performers from grades K to 9 will put on the musical based on Charles Dickens' classic novel at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. The play combines drama, humor and some favorite songs. The open final dress rehearsal will go on at 4 p.m. on Thursday June 14. Proof of Watertown residency must be presented at the door. This weekend "The Hobbit" takes center stage at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. Watertown Children’s Theatre's musical production of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic story features 60 third- to fifth-grade students, many from Watertown and others from nearby towns. The theatre’s fall season already opened with a spooky look at the life of Edgar Allen Poe, in Kathryn Schultz Miller’s "Poe! Poe! Poe!" She has been hired to step into this role following the departure of Producing Artistic Director, Peyton Pugmire, who left WCT this summer for a position at Boston Conservatory.
