Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio expresses his pride in the job done by the Fire Department during the days of chaos.

  After spending nearly 24 straight hours coordinating the Watertown Fire Department's response to this massive effort, I am pleased to provide the following report; By now I'm certain you have heard the harrowing accounts of the heroic actions of our first responders.  As the details of the fierce gun battle Friday morning on our streets emerge we will all know the extent of that true heroism, particularly from our police officers.  (Police) Chief (Edward) Deveau has all the reason in the world to be proud of his people as we all should be of him and them. Watertown Fire Chief Urges Caution During the Blizzard of 2013

Chief Mario Orangio asks residents to stay off the roads and to clear snow from around fire hydrants.

Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio asks residents to take caution and stay off the roads during the Blizzard of 2013.  A snow emergency starts at noon Friday and remains in effect until further notice. For more information on the emergency click here. "Residents are urged to remain in doors during the storm and should refrain from driving so that roads can remain clear for snow removal and emergency vehicles," Orangio said in an announcement. "The town asks that you be a good neighbor and to periodically check on elderly or incapacitated neighbors." Residents can help the Fire Department by clearing snow from around fire hydrants on their street, Orangio said.  Fire Lt. Thomas Thibaut, president of the firefighters union, urged people to …

Watertown Fire Chief Helped Select Winner of Civil Bravery Award Named for 9/11 Victim

Gov. Patrick appointed Mario Orangio to be part of the Madeline Amy Sweeney Award selection committee.

Gov. Deval Patrick tapped Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio to be one of the committee members to select the winner of the 2011 Madeline Amy Sweeney Award for Civil Bravery. Orangio, who his also a vice president of the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts, took part in the selection of the winner of the award named for Sweeney. She was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11 which was hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001. She used an phone on the airplane to alert airline officials of the hijacking. During the recent selection meeting, Orangio said he met Sweeney's family. The committee interviewed the finalists and selected a winner, who will be honored on Sept. 11, 2011.
