Watertown Fire Log: Oct. 24 to Oct. 30

A kitchen fire, a woman gets stuck in an elevator and teen treated for being shot by a BB gun.

Oct. 25, 6:19 a.m.: A woman got stuck in an elevator that broke down on the eighth floor of a building on Waverley Avenue. Firefighters forced open the door to get the woman out because she was getting very nervous. The woman suffered no injuries. Oct. 26, 8:38 a.m.: A fire started in a bottom kitchen cabinet in a home on Stoneleigh Road. Fire and police personnel quickly removed an elderly couple. Firefighters searched for a cat that the couple was worried about. The cat was found in the basement, unharmed. The cause of the fire was limked to a towel that had been used to wipe up grease around an electrical burner on the stovetop. The towel was put back in a drawer, and it caught fire. Watertown Fire Log: Oct. 17 to Oct. 23

Boy hurt when falls off dad's shoulders, High School holds a fire drill without telling the Fire Department and a man hits a telephone pole.

Oct. 17, 5:02 p.m.: A mother on Grandview Avenue called the ambulance after her son had an allergic reaction to peanut butter. He began to get a rash around his mouth, and appeared to be having trouble breathing. He was taken to Children’s Hospital with his mother. Oct. 18, 5:41 p.m.: A man hit his head on a street sign on Pleasant Street and cut his head. Fire crews bandaged his head and he was taken to Mount Auburn Hosptial. Oct. 19, 9:08 a.m.: A carbon monixide detector went off at a business on Orchard Street. One worker complained of having a head ache and another had elevated CO levels. Both were taken to Mount Auburn Hospital. Oct. 19, 9:34 p.m.: A boy fell of his father’s shoulders while playing and he was unresponsive. Fire crews …

Watertown Fire Log: Oct. 10 to Oct. 16

Smoke scare linked to wood stove, carbon monoxide detector set off and a boy who was injured was taken to hospital.

Oct. 10, 12:29 p.m.: Two cars collided on Summer Street near Forest Street, and one of the cars rolled on its roof. The driver of the car that rolled over said she had back paid and was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital. The driver of the other car injured her thumb, but did not want to go to hospital. Oct. 12, 12 p.m.: An odor of smoke was detected at a home on Dexter Avenue. Firefighters determined the smoke was coming from a wood-burning stove in the garage, where a resident was burning brush. The resident was asked to stop the burning, and fire officials discovered that the stove was surrounded by combustible materials. Oct. 12, 1:02 p.m.:  A smoke detector went off in the Watertown Elderly Housing on Warren Street. The electrical burning…

Watertown Fire Log: Oct. 3 to Oct. 9

A van fire, fire fighters treat man having a heart attack and a boy fell off a jungle gym.

Oct. 4, 6:04 a.m.: A car backed up and hit a street sign on Boylston Street and ended up in the bushes. The driver was not injured and refused treatment from firefighters. Oct. 5, 5:40 p.m.: Three cars got into an accident on Arsenal Street, and the driver of the first car complained of neck and back pain. The passenger in the second car had a bump on the back of the head. Both were taken to Mount Auburn Hospital. No one was injured in the third car. Oct. 6, 10:57 a.m.: Three inches of water filled the basement of a home on Brookline Street. Firefighters pumped out the water with a submersible pump, because the residents’ pump did not work. Oct. 6, 10:57 a.m.: A vehicle caught fire on Whitman Road. Firefighters found a van with smoke …

Watertown Fire Log: Sept. 26 to Oct. 2

Woman hurt in motorcycle accident, man resuscitated after an overdose and a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Sept. 27, 7:36 a.m.: A woman hurt her left should and right side when she fell off her motorcycle in an accident on Greenough Boulevard, near Grove Street. An off-duty firefighter helped the woman before Watertown fire crews arrived. The woman was immobilized on a backboard with her helmet on, and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Sept. 27, 1:38 p.m.: Firefighters went to Fayette Street for a report of a man overdosing on prescription drugs. Firefighters found the man not breathing and with no heartbeat. They gave him CPR and used a defibrillator machine. After about two minutes the man began breathing and his pulse returned. The man was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Watertown Fire Log: Sept. 12 to Sept. 18

Hydraulic fluid leak, man hurts head in bike accident and dog found locked in apartment.

Sept. 12, 9:18 a.m.: Hydraulic fluid leaked out of a cement mixer truck on Lexington Street. The fluid coated a path 10 feet wide and 80 feet long. The spill was tracked to a hydraulic fluid reservoir tank, which contained 10-40 motor oil. Fire officials estimated that 5 to 8 gallons leaked, but none got into the storm drains. Sept. 12, 6:02 p.m.: Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Greenough Boulevard. When they arrived, they found an MBTA mini-bus, but it was not on fire. The odor might have come from a brake drum that locked up. Sept. 13, 9:20 p.m.: Fire crews went to Riverside Street on a call for a child who was not breathing. The kid was breathing when they arrived, so they treated him and sent him to Children’…

Watertown Fire Log: Aug. 15 to Aug. 21

Tree takes down power line, house flooded by broken hose and smoke in house caused by cooking fire.

Incidents Aug. 15, 8:36 p.m.: A tree limb appeared to have rubbed through the insulation around an electrical wire on Coolidge Hill Road. The wire began to arc and set the branch on fire. When NStar workers arrived, they found the branch was arcing on a second wire. NStar cut away the branches and restored power to the area. Aug. 16, 1:54 a.m.: Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident on Main Street at Cross Street. One of the drivers refused to get out of her car and said she wanted to make phone calls. When she got out of the car she walked into oncoming traffic, and was almost hit. She refused medical treatment and was told to wait on the sidewalk until police could investigate the incident. Watertown Fire Log: Aug. 8 to Aug. 14

Woman burned by fire ball from deodorant can, van catches fire and man goes to hospital after eating hot peppers.

Incidents Aug. 8, 8:18 p.m.: A stove in a home on Laurel Street began smoking. When firefighters arrived the stove had been shut down and they ventilated the kitchen. Grease on the bottom of the stove began smoking, but there was no fire. Aug. 9, 3:52 p.m.: A fire started inside a 2002 GMC Van while it was at Watertown Gas + Service on Watertown Street. The owner extinguished most of the flames but firefighters used a hose to finish off the blaze. The fire appeared to be caused by an electrical short circuit. Aug. 10, 12:10 a.m.: A man fell down 12 steps. He was conscious and alert when fire crews arrived, but he had cuts and bruises. He was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Man locks child in car and himself out of his home and a man and woman both fall down their outside steps.

Incidents July 25, 11:58 p.m.: A Laurel Street resident cut two of his fingers when he had an accident with a knife. Firefighters washed and re-bandaged the fingers before taking him to Mount Auburn Hospital. July 27, 6:02 p.m.: Fire crews went to Highland Avenue when an arcing wire was reported. They found a tree branch hanging from a telephone wire and removed the branch. July 28, 12:23 a.m.: A Palfrey Street resident hurt her right eye when she was putting in her contact lens. She was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital for treatment. July 28, 8:58 a.m.: A man accidentally locked his young child in his car on Winter Street, and also locked himself out of his home. He hurt his hand while trying to get into the house. Fire crews got into the …

Watertown Fire Log: July 18 to July 24

Woman struck by car, a man has a heart attack in a cab and two mulch fires.

Incidents July 18, 12:09 a.m.: The first floor porch of a home on Parker Street caught fire. Firefighters put out the flames before they caused extensive damage. The cause was unclear. July 18, 7:29 a.m.: A dishwasher caught fire in a home on Arlington Street. When fire crews arrived the fire had gone out. The electrical circuit to the dishwasher was turned off and the owner was told to contact an electrician. July 19, 12:07 p.m.: A woman was struck by a car while walking on Cross Street at Main Street. She told emergency crews that her right forearm hurt, as well as her right small toe. She has minor abrasions on both, and she was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital for treatment. July 19, 8:55 p.m.: A resident on Philip Darch Road said a …
