Little League Honoring Watertown's First Responders During Opening Ceremony

Watertown's police officers and firefighters involved in the shoot out with the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects will be honored Saturday morning.

  The parade and opening ceremony for Watertown's Youth Baseball and Youth Softball leagues had been scheduled for last weekend, but the tragedy and chaos of the Boston Marathon Bombers manhunt meant it had to be postponed. The celebration is back on, and it will include a salute to the Watertown Police officers and firefighters who took part in the first shoot out with the bombing suspects in the early hours of April 19. "We want to thank and recognize them for what they have done," said Greg Salvucci, president of Watertown Baseball and Watertown Softball.  He has invited the seven police officers in the gun battle and two firefighters who helped save the injured MBTA officer.  "We will have game balls for them and have made up special T…

Watertown Firefighters Douse Fire in Garbage Truck

Garbage ignited in the back of the truck.

A garbage truck driver got a surprise while doing his route this morning when he saw smoke coming from the back of the truck. The driver headed to the nearest fire station to have the fire doused, said Watertown Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Tardiff.  "He pulled up in front of Station 3 on Orchard Street and we put the fire out," Tardiff said. The truck arrived at the fire station at about 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, and the fire was out in just a few minutes. What started the fire is not clear, Tardiff said. "We are not sure what started the fire," Tardiff said. "On his route (the driver) picked up something that was on fire." Tardiff said residents should be careful when throwing out coals, charred wood and other things that have been on fire. "When…

If you are referring to the fireman who is accused of stealing and other things from Cambridge super markets then the town did the right thing by suspending him. There probably is a law that says you have to pay someone until there is a conviction then you can terminate them. The town shouldn't do anything to get sued. I'm pretty sure that this is the same fireman who is already suing the town.   more ›

2 Watertown Firefighters Graduate from the Mass. Firefighting Academy

  Two members of the Watertown Fire Department graduated in the most recent Massachusetts Firefighting Academy class, announced Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio. Daron J. D'Agostino and Jeffrey M. McNamara were among the 66 graduates from the academy in Stow.   Fire Marshal Stephen Coan sent out the following release: State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan and Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Director Edmund M. Walker are pleased to announce the graduation of the 196th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's sixty-day Recruit Firefighting Program on Sept. 28 2012.
