Raiders Girls' Hockey Team Bows Out to Arlington in State Tourney

Arlington skated out of Watertown with a shutout win.

Familiar foes Watertown/Melrose and Arlington met for the second time this season with the same outcome - a Spy Ponders win - but this time the stakes were higher as the teams met in the MIAA Girls' Ice Hockey State Tournament. Arlington struck early in the game played at John Ryan Arena in Watertown. Senior Carolyn Woodin scored 1:36 into the game. Senior Shannon Hickey and junior Meredith Gallagher assisted on the play. The Raiders had their shot to even the score, with two power plays late in the first period. Watertown could not cash in on either. The Spy Ponders then had to power plays of their own, neither of which resulted in a goal. Late in the second, Woodin struck again, this time with assists from senior Shannon Reilly and …

Watertown's Kelly Haunts Belmont Again - This Time on the Ice

Watertown's girls' hockey team traveled to Belmont and brought home a win against their rivals.

It has seemed as if there is a will in which a Watertown girls team can beat Belmont, Erika Kelly is the way they are going to do it. Kelly, the three sport senior standout, has been the bane of Belmont's contest for the past three years, whether on the field hockey pitch, the softball diamond and on the ice. And Wednesday, Dec. 14, afternoon's match between the neighboring rivals saw Kelly the difference once again, scoring twice as Watertown began its season with a hard fought 4-2 victory at Belmont's "Skip" Viglirolo Rink, despite being outplayed for long stretches by a Marauder team that peppered Raiders' sophomore goalie Anna Kleis with 32 shots.  "Kleis is a young starter who we need to play well and she came through against a …
