Flu Shots Still Available in Watertown Amidst Heavy Outbreak in Massachusetts

Many Bay State residents have suffered from the flu, and some have even died.

  Flu season has hit Massachusetts hard, but the Watertown Health Department still has vaccine available for those who not gotten their shot.  The flu outbreak in Massachusetts has been so severe that some cities have declared health emergencies. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino declared a health emergency, after more than 700 cases have been reported in the Hub, and 18 people across the state have died from the flu. Watertown has had its share of cases, said Public Health Nurse Wil Van Dinter. The flu season is early this year, and people may not have taken the threat as seriously this year, Van Dinter said. Schedule for 2012 Free Flu Clinics in Watertown

The Watertown Health Department will run eight free flu clinics around town for a variety of ages.

  The following information comes from the Watertown Health Department: The Watertown Health Department will be offering Influenza vaccine to all residents at the following locations: Please remember to bring your insurance and Medicare card with you for billing purposes where applicable. Vaccine is still available to you if you do not have insurance. If you know of anyone who is homebound and unable to attend one of our free clinics please call 617-972-6446 and speak to the Public Health Nurse.

The Watertown Health Department will present a lecture on how to prepare for an emergency and keep you and your family safe.

The following information was released by the Watertown Mall: Watertown Mall will present a free lecture on Friday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Join the Watertown Health Department for an informational session about Home Safety. Learn how to prepare for an emergency, prevent falls, dispose of hazardous waste, avoid food poisoning, and keep your children safe. Most injuries at home are preventable. Get tips and advice on how to pro-actively make your home a safer environment for you and your family. Skin Cancer Awareness Event at the Watertown Mall

The Watertown Health Department will give tips for enjoying the sun safely at the May 4 event.

Learn how to protect your skin from the summer sun at a presentation by the Watertown Health Department at the Watertown Mall on May 4. The Skin Cancer Awareness event will provide tips and advice so you can enjoy the outdoors without putting your skin, or your childrens' skin, at risk for sunburn, UV exposure and other factors that can lead to skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, according to a release from the Watertown Health Department.
