Possible Changes Coming to Pleasant St. Zoning, Watertown Planning Board

The Town Council will begin discussing changes to the way projects are approved on the West Side corridor, but one Planning Board member may not be voting on these projects much longer.

  Residents of the West Side of Watertown have complained loudly about numerous projects proposed (and usually approved) along the Pleasant Street Corridor and the Town Council has heard their displeasure. The Council will revisit the zoning rules for the area. One member of the Planning Board who has voted against more than one project may not be back for another term, however.  On March 28 the Council's Economic Development and Planning Subcommittee interviewed two members of the Planning Board - Neal Corbett and Linda Tuttle-Barletta - and Zoning Board member Suneeth John. Developers Going Back to Drawing Board for Proposed Condos on Pleasant Street

The Planning Board told the builders to move the building which had been planned to go on a town easement.

  Developers of a 14-condo development proposed for 192 Pleasant St. must redo plans because the building would have sat on a town easement. The building, proposed by Acton-based Burkhard Corp., would have gone on top of a section of the town's 50-foot-wide easement for a sewer line, Watertown's Director of Economic Development and Planning Steve Magoon said, according to a report on Boston.com.  Plans call for the building to be made up of one- and two bedroom condos, according to the report. Burkhard appeared before the Planning Board on Jan. 9 seeking a special permit to build the condo building.  The building would be the latest housing development to be built in the Pleasant Street Corridor. Nathanael, the current owner of the property at 192 Pleasant is indeed paying his taxes. So the town is not with out revenue here, they simply want more. Good try though.   more ›

Waltham Street Project Delayed, Assisted Living Center Proposed in the Square

Developers of the 211-unit complex asked for a delay in their hearing with the Watertown Planning Board.

  [NOTE: The date of the March Planning Board Meeting has been changed to March 14] The Planning Board will not hear the presentation from the developers of a proposed 211-unit apartment complex on Waltham Street this month, but a proposal for a five-story assisted living facility in Watertown Square is coming before the board. This week, the Planning Department sent out notice that the hearing would be delayed for the second straight month. The hearing was scheduled to be held at the Feb. 8 Planning Board meeting. It now is scheduled to be at the March 14 meeting. The last meeting, in December, drew many neighors of the project upset about the proposed complex.
