The rain will stick around for the rest of Friday.
Rain rolled into Watertown shortly before noon and will likely stick around until after midnight. With the chilly temperatures, the National Weather Service forecast calls for possible sleet between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The rain is supposed to end by 1 a.m. Saturday. The weekend forecast looks much nicer, with sun and temps in the 50s. The wet weather has closed the grass fields around Watertown on Friday. Up to 8 inches could fall in town on Monday night and during the day Tuesday.
Spring begins Wednesday, but Old Man Winter wants to get in one more whack before winter goes away. Forecasters predict as much as 8 inches of snow could fall on Watertown today and Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 9 p.m. Monday and lasting through 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Look out for heavy snow and ice, and between 4 and 8 inches of snow, according the NWS warning. Snow will likely make Tuesday morning's commute a difficult one, the NWS warns. Watertown will see mostly rain with some possible rain/snow mix, forecasters say.
[Updated at 6:30 p.m.] The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Middlesex County and the Watertown area as a batch of rain and snow moves its way into southern New England tonight. After some rain Wednesday, the storm is expected to hit later tonight and last through Thursday into Friday. WHDH forecasters are predicting the Boston area to get mostly rain, with a rain/snow mix just west of the city. According to snow total maps from this morning, some areas just west of Boston could get 3-6 inches of snow, depending on where the rain/snow line falls. Weather forecasters are predicting at least six inches of snow with a foot of snow possible.
Will Watertown get pummeled this weekend with more than a foot of snow or will it be a half-foot with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Watertown could see up to a foot of snow.
Once again, the snow is melting, but don't put the shovels away because, once again, the weekend will bring us more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, and Watertown could see up to 12 inches of new snow before it's done. On his blog, WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard is calling for light rain along the coast Saturday with snow inland and snow everywhere by Sunday morning. There may also be some coastal flooding. The area could see around a half a foot of more snow Saturday night into Sunday.
There are still huge snowbanks everywhere from the Blizzard of '13, even after moderate temperatures this week, but Old Man Winter isn't done with the Boston area yet. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Sunday at 1 p.m. for a storm that will pass through the area starting Saturday night. The forecast calls for 1-3 inches of snow on Saturday night and another 3-5 inches on Sunday, mainly before 4 p.m. Visibility won't be great either, as winds could gust as high as 43 mph on Sunday, blowing the snow around and producing wind chill values as low as -2 on Sunday night. The gusty winds will continue on Presidents Day, which will be sunny with a high near 32 but wind chill values as low as -4.

White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies.
What began as a blizzard watch for the Watertown area has now been upgraded to a blizzard warning. The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of Eastern Massachusetts Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states.
