Watertown Police Log: Jan. 2 to Jan. 8

Downspouts stolen from Mt. Auburn Cemetery, fraudulent check cashed and man attacked walking into Tedeschi.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Watertown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. Arrests Jan. 3, 10:15 p.m.: Police were called to Piermont Street for a domestic disturbance, Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn said. Yama N. Cheshatsang, 46, of 48 Piermont St., was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery. Jan. 4, 1:25 a.m.: Police were called to Marion Road for a domestic disturbance, Lawn said. David B. Callahan, 60, of 49 Marion Road, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness, for taking the phone away from the victim. Jan. 4, 12:12 p.m.: New Bedford Police served a warrant on a Rochester, Mass. home and arrested a man wanted for charges in Watertown…

Two-Town Crime Spree Ends When Police Catch Suspect With Firefighter's Car

The man allegedly took a catering van from Belmont, a car from the Orchard Street Fire Station and items from cars in the area of Belmont Street.

Police got a call about a car screeching its tires after midnight on Belmont Street, and when they caught the suspect, they discovered he had stolen two cars, including one from the Fire Station on Orchard Street. Watetown Police arrested Bryan C. Vernazza of Arlington, on multiple charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, said Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady. “He took the car from behind the fire station and started driving like a maniac, drawing attention to himself,” Grady said. Police went to the area and found a Toyota Camry, Grady said, and they followed the man who got out of the car onto Hovey Street. Officers searched the area and found a van on Loomis Avenue — near the fire station — that had been taken from Bon Appetit …

Three Watertown Firefighters to be Honored by Governor, State Fire Marshal

A Watertown fire lieutenant and two firefighters will be recognized for their work that saved the life of a suicidal man.

Three members of the Watertown Fire Department will be honored at the Firefighter of the Year awards ceremony for saving the life of a suicidal man in August 2010. Gov. Deval L. Patrick, Public Safety and Secretary Mary Elizabeth Heffernan and State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan will recognize the heroic acts of bravery of 150 firefigthers from across Massachusetts during the 22nd annual “Firefighter of the Year” Awards. The event will take place at the historic Hanover Theatre in Worcester on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 12:30 p.m. On Aug. 22, 2010, Watertown Fire Lt.
