A man walking down Arsenal Street was attacked by two men and his iPhone was stolen. Gov. Patrick stopped by Perkins School for the Blind, where he read from his book to the school's Elder Book Group. Garbage trucks had a bad week around Watertown. First one caught on fire, then another one struck a pole in Watertown Square and caused major traffic problems. Robert Lewis Jr., the keynote speaker at this year's Unity Breakfast on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, asked Watertown residents to think beyond Civil Rights and work to improve Human Rights. Some residents who live near the park behind the new Police Station complained that the park will be ruined by new features planned for the park, including a hard court area.

Watertown's Ross Miner will compete at the US Figure Skating Nationals later this month, but he welcomed the new year at the First Night Skating Spectacular on Boston's Frog Pond. A mattress fire at a home on Howard Street was caused by a faulty space heater. Security at Best Buy caught a man trying to steal DVDs from the store. He allegedly put three movies down his pants. Residents can come learn about proposed changes and renovations of Casey Park, including an outdoor street/ice hockey rink and improvements to the little league baseball field.

A man working at Victoria's Secret faces larceny charges after running a scam to sell items below cost. Mt. Auburn Street sandwich shop Maximo's Takeout closed its doors, reported blogger Renee Hirschberg. The restaurant had a number of fans, and appeared in local media outlets, including the Boston Phoenix. Watertown-based Arsenal Medical received a multi-million federal contract to develop a product that will help save soldiers suffering internal bleeding on the battlefield.
