Best Apple Pie? - See Who Won the Faire on the Square Baking Contest

The judges have eaten, and picked their favorite pies entered in Watertown's annual baking contest.

The following information was provided by the Faire on the Square organizers: You may ask, what happened at this year’s annual Faire on the Square Best Apple Pie Baker Contest? Well, here is the big wooden spoon scoop … The contest was held Saturday, September 22nd in the Town Hall. The event was graciously hosted by Ms. Irene Frain and Ms. Ingrid Marchesano. The esteemed judges were: Veterans Randy Kenny; Dominic Rice and a resident judge. Nine bakers entered this year’s contest with their prized-recipe apple pies. Some pies arrived to the event hot – just out of the oven. The bakers names were not included on the pies to insure impartiality of the judges. Top Bakers Selected in Faire on the Square Apple Pie Contest

The three winners were chosen by a panel of judges at the annual Faire.

The Faire on the Square organizer sent out the following announcement: Wondering what happened at this year’s annual Faire on the Square Best Apple Pie Baker Contest, held on Sept. 24 in Town Hall? Well, here is the big wooden spoon scoop. The event was emceed by Retired Veterans’ Service Officer, Bob Erickson, assisted by the hostess-of-the-mostest, Irene Frain and the esteemed judges were: Mary B. Ryan of Bromfield Street, Peggy Anderson of York Avenue and representing the U.S. Marine Corps, Veteran Randy Kenny of Morrison Road. Eight bakers entered this year’s contest with their prized-recipe apple pies. Some pies arrived to the event hot – just out of the oven. Entrants Wanted for the Faire on the Square Apple Pie Contest

Watertown residents can test their baking skills in the contest at the annual Faire on Sept. 24.

The following announcement was sent out by the Faire on the Square committee: The annual Apple Pie Contest will take place at this year’s Faire on the Square, Saturday, Sept. 24. Held in the First Floor “Foyer” at Town Hall, judges will choose Watertown’s best apple pie baker. The contest is open to Watertown residents only, type of apple used is up to the baker and the winners will be chosen based on best taste and appearance. Prizes will be announced and awarded at the contest. Pies must be dropped off by 11 a.m., the morning of the Faire. Judging begins at 11:30 a.m. As in past years, all the pies will be cut up and served to those attending the event.
