The high school celebrated three of its athletes who signed letters of intent to play sports in college.
For many athletes, high school graduation means the end of competitive sports, but three Watertown High School seniors will take their game to the next level. Field hockey players Alyssa Carlson and Lauren Sutherland and lacrosse player Danny Loprete signed letters of intent to play in college. On Thursday they were honored with a ceremony at the school attended by family, coaches and friends (see the video to the right to see some of the action). Carlson will head to Northeastern in the fall, where she will be reunited with her sister Katie, a current sophomore on the Huskies' field hockey team. "It's going to be fun," Carlson said. "We played together for two years in high school." What position she will play remains up in the air, said…

The group of seniors, the first group to finish compete their career with the young program.
The following was submitted by Bob Johnson from Watertown Lacrosse: Michigan basketball had its Fab Five, and the current Watertown High School junior class has its own Fab Four, so what moniker should be attached to these five Raider senior athletes? Time will tell, but perhaps a fitting iconic nickname should simply be: “The First Five.” Jack Bracket, Michael Busconi, Dino Flori, Justin Pelletier, and Ben Sampson, the senior co-captains of the 2012 tournament bound WHS boy’s lacrosse team, will forever be known as the first five players to graduate from the program. But there’s more to their “first” stories than just being the initial graduates. As each one moves on in his secondary schooling, words like leadership, passion, and honor …

The Raiders reached the postseason in a number of sports this spring.
The Watertown boys' lacrosse team traveled to Southeast Massachusetts and came away with a 12-9 win over host Fairhaven, Tuesday afternoon, in the preliminary round of the MIAA Div. 2 East Section Tournament. Here is Bob Johnson's account of the game: History was made Tuesday night, but it didn’t come easy. Like most things worth fighting for, the first ever Watertown High School boy’s lacrosse team MIAA Div. 3 (East) tournament win took tremendous effort, a lot of skill, and a little luck. But in the end, the 23rd seeded Raiders' 12-9 win over the 10th seeded Fairhaven Blue Devils was well worth the 90 minute drive to and from the home of our southern neighbors on the door to the Cape. The first quarter was a struggle for the Raiders, …
Watertown defeated Melrose in a matchup of the top two teams in the Middlesex League's Small Division.
The following report was provided by Watertown High School boys' lacrosse coach Bob Johnson: It was a game that did not disappoint. It did not disappoint the hundreds of fans who chose it to be Boston Lax.net's featured "Game of the Week." It did not disappoint parents and fans who traveled to Melrose on a chilly Friday evening to see the number 1 and number 2 teams in the Middlesex League "small division." And most importantly, it did not disappoint the Watertown coaching staff whose team hung on for a thrilling 10-9 win over Melrose last Friday night. In what has become a recurring theme this season, senior net minder and co-captain Justin Pelletier had 15 saves on 24 shots to lead the now first place Raiders to victory. Fellow seniors…

The other goal scorers were junior Alex McAdam, sophomores Matt Donnell (2 goals) and Joe Kelland, and freshman Anthony Busconi. Belmont took a lead at the end of the third quarter by the Raiders battled back from an 8-5 deficit, Burns said. Donnell tied the game at 8 with 1:35 left in the game. The teams played a four minute overtime, and Farrar scored the decisive goal with 1:07 left in OT, Burns said. Raiders goalie, senior Justin Pelletier made some key saves to keep the Raiders in the game, Burns said. "Justin had 11 saves on 19 shots, and two big saves in ovetime," …
