The foreclosure rate has dropped dramatically from a year ago.
Foreclosures have dropped dramatically in Massachusetts and there were only a handful in Watertown in March. The data, from an article in Banker and Tradesman, foreclosure petitions - the first step in the foreclosure process - have dropped 82 percent in March compared to the same month in 2012, and they were down 52 percent in the first quarter of 2013 from the first quarter last year. Foreclosure deeds - the final step in the foreclosure process - fell 74 percent from a year ago to 227 statewide. Watertown's foreclosures also dropped, according to data provided by the Warren Group. Only one foreclosure petition was filed in March for Watertown properties, which was the same as March 2012. The national spotlight was shining bright on Watertown on Friday, April 19, as the country, and world, watched the Watertown lockdown and ensuing capture of a Boston Marathon bombing suspect. Despite the events of that day — which started with a shootout between police and the bombing suspects in a residential neighborhood — Watertown real estate agents say the housing market has seen little to no change.
